Pool & Snooker: Gibraltar association's busy schedule gets underway

After a long time in preparation the new premises down in Jumper’s Bastion, hosted its first two matches of the 06/07 season.

Team Queensway celebrated their first ‘home’ game in the new site with a 5 - 0 win over the Gibraltar Service Police.

Merv Padmore, back after a long absence from the game, beat GSP captain Alfred Becerra 52 points to 28. Kevin Dobson played and defeated Dylan Ballester, 38-6, in a clash of generations.

Kevin Dalli, new to snooker, but not to a cue, gave a stirling lesson how not to lose; eventually winning on the pink, at 56 to36. New boy, Neil McKelvey, showed excellent technique winning 71 to 24 over Chris Durante. The last frame pitched Team Queensway captain Eddie Newton up against youngster Ivan Viñales. Age will tell and Eddie finally won 50 to 32 on the pink. A clean sweep for Team Queensway!

Merv Padmore voted Man-of-the-Match by the GSP team. Leslie Bruzon was chosen star man by Team Queensway.

On table 2 nomads from the Mediterranean Rowing Club brought four-man Cue Ball to task, only to lose 2 frames to three.

Henry Vinet went down 35 - 68 to Jonathan Collado. Captain, for the night, Wilfred Smart was beaten 23 - 72 by the other captain Dylan Alvez, the Cue Ball’s Man-of-the-Match. Peter Buttigieg jnr, the Med’s star man, beat Tyrone Olivero 54 - 46; in a close-fought, black-ball frame. John-Joe Alvez lost 32-67 to Chris Schimidzu and Peter Buttigieg snr refereed brilliantly and got a walkover. Four points away from home for the Cue Ball.

Up on Flat Bastion Road, at the top of town, in the Astoria R&F Club, the Astoria A lost by four frames to one against St Bernard’s.

Adrian Navarro was beaten 40 - 66 by St Bernard’s Man-of-the-Match, Harry Ward and Elio Monteverde was overcome 17 - 72 by in-form Les Moore. Errol Bolaños gave Mukesh Bakhru a game before losing 42-45 on the black ball and the Astoria’s Star man Adrian Lima beat Fernando Monteverde 50-22. In the fifth frame Pepe Santos went down 13-48 to Adrian Wink.

Five points, away from home, for the ‘saints’.

In the north-end, on Devil’s Tower Road, reigning champions barentertainment.net beat the Astoria Too four frames to one.

Charlie Lara was beaten by Henry Bear 41 - 42 in a very close encounter of the Charlie/Henry kind. That would have been some frame to watch!

Laurence Sissarello beat Albert Goldwin, the Astoria’s other Star man, 51 - 48. Another very close call, with a little bit of luck around.

Yewhung Chin won against Kim Olivero, no score available and Sean Galligan had a walkover.
Five points, on home ground, for barentertainment.net.

All names, plus contact telephone numbers, must be entered on to the sheet displayed in St Bernard’s Social Club; by the player or his captain.

The draw will be announced and held in St Bernards and games will commence immediately afterwards.

The organisers will attempt to contact each player with details and reminders but it is the responsibility of each and every player to know when and who they are playing.
