The Famous Grouse Tournament 2007, held at the Gibraltar Squash Club on Wednesday & Thursday evenings, was both entertaining and challenging for all participants. Overall, eight teams, made up of three seeded players each, took part.

This year, the tournament had an unusual twist to the points system. Only one game of 60 points was played per match (between two teams).
The semi-finals and final were held on Thursday evening.

Team 6 (Steven Shacaluga, Louis Posso, and Gail Attias) had a tough match, losing 46-60 against Team 2 (Carl Gomez, Julian Teuma, and Kevin Tewkesbury).

A closer match was decided for the other finalist team – Team 5 (Anthony Brindle, MaryAnn Durell, and Sean Gomez – who beat Team 3 (Justin Chipolina, Charles Savignon, and Jovan Santos) 60-55.

It was an exciting final to watch, as Anthony started off the match, leaving MaryAnn with a 9-point lead; but her much stronger opponent, Carl Gomez, quickly caught up and took the lead.

The deciding, final-winning points were very close, and won by 13-year-old Sean Gomez – who has played consistently well throughout the tournament – beating Kevin Tewkesbury. With a 49-50 score against him, Sean Gomez improved his gameplay against Kevin, eventually getting a well-deserved win with a score of 60-57.

Many thanks to Martin Lawrence, for organising the tournament and tapas!
