Football: Gibraltar beat St Pauli to take 3rd place in the Wild Cup

Gibraltar beat St Pauli to come third in the FIFI Wild Cup yesturday. After just losing to the Northern Cyprus team in the Semi-Finals they played against St Pauli, who they had previously drawn against, in the group stages of the competition. They had earlier on in the week lost the semi-final against Northern Cyprus, who were the overall winners of the competition and had demonstrated throughout the competition their excellent footballing skills..

The game played against St Pauli was a good opportunity to inflict a defeat on the German side, who had managed to hold them to a draw, in their first encounter, despite Gibraltar having had most of the possession and chances. To beat St Pauli by 2-1 was therefore a great achievement for the Gibraltarians.

The only team to beat them in the tournement did eventualy win it. Northern Cyprus beat Zanzibar, 4-1 in the Final.

Gibraltar can come home now with their heads held high as they claimed a respectable 3rd place finish.
