Basketball: Gibraltar lose by 7 points to Malta
Gibraltar succumbed, last night, to a third, straight defeat and saw Malta collect their first win of the competition by inflicting a narrow margin defeat 70-63.
Michael Naudi had 16 points and nine rebounds for the winners while Garcia Fernandez had 16 points and eight rebounds for Gibraltar.
Group A's other game: Moldova made it three wins in a row in the Promotion Cup with an 87-73 victory over Andorra in Group A.
Alexei Andrus scored 20 points and Eugeniu Scripcaru had 12 rebounds in the victory.
Marin Rodriguez collected 21 points and seven rebounds in vain for the losers.
In Group B, Gerti Shima had 23 points and eight rebounds to lift Albania to a third straight win, 87-59 over Albania.
San Marino got 18 points from Stefano Rossini on course to a 73-61 win over Wales.
Gibraltar, therefore come away from the tournament, without a win but can draw a lot of confidence from thetwo tightly contested matches against Malta and Andorra. Their next objective is to try to win the Small Island Games competition in 2007, being held in Rhodes, Greece.
