Hockey: EHF Executive visit to Gibraltar a huge success
The EHF executives who were in Gibraltar last weekend were very impressed by the standard of hockey being played in Gibraltar , the facilities available and the huge efforts being made at junior level. In fact the weekend was not marred by any single incident as we might all have been led to believe. I have to add I was a very proud Gibraltarian on the weekend where we entertained the highest European authority in hockey, whose president is from Spain and who only had words of praise for us.
From the EHF visit we benefited from various angles:
1 - Gibraltar is now featured prominently on the EHF web site with a full photo (& write-up) of the EHF President & the local Sports Minister shaking hands at the ‘La Mamela’ supper.
2 - Another first for local youth hockey. The GHA ‘18 & under’ squad has been invited to the Junior Championships to be played in Athens , Greece this July. This is a ten team tournament and I will be sending the draft match schedule for your perusal in the very near future.
3 - Also we have been invited to Berlin , Germany to attend a four day youth development conference in September. This is an honour only afforded to the top hockey nations!
That’s all for now
Best Regards, Stephen Valarino
