Sunday 17th September turned out to be a family affair at the latest Med Golf competition, when young Josh Jones pushed his dad Kevin in to second place to win the Lewis Stagnetto trophy at La Duquesa. Josh is one of Gibraltar’s fast improving youngsters and as well as winning the sponsor’s crystal trophy, now takes his place in the Med Golf Masters at Valderrama on Sunday 5th November. There was some consolation for dad Kevin when, along with Josh, he won the day’s “top team” prize. Third place went to another improving golfer in Mike Welsh, with Rob Whatley taking the “senior” prize, Julie Brewer was “top lady” and one of Med Golf’s regulars, Les Housley, winning the days “star quality” player award.
Amongst the other prizewinners, nearest the pin winners were Mike Cowburn, Denny To, Rodney Sheriff, Frank Samways and Ian Blair, with Johann Olivera having the lowest combined score on the par 3’s. Dan Aldridge had the longest drive, with Rob Whatley recording the best round of the day.
Josh now joins all the other previous 14, competition winners for the Med Golf Masters, which Blue Sky Management, Aage Marine Hempel Marine Electronics and Aloha Bookies sponsor this year. There is just one qualification event left and this is at Dehessa Montenmedio on Sunday 15th October where SG Hambros are the sponsors. This is always a very popular venue anyway and with it also being such an important event, a big turnout is expected. You can make sure of your tee time by ringing Johnathan Goodson on Spain (0034) 639 741 886 or e-mail him at jg@medgolf.gi
