Special Olympics: Summary of September's Annual Law Enforcement torch run

This past 13th September 2006 our Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics was held. The event started at 3pm at the Eliott Hotel with the traditional lighting of the ´Flame of Hope´by Reception Manager Mr Gerald Aonso and Gibraltar Services Police Chief Police Officer Mr John Durante Patron of the Torch Run.


The first runner to carry the ´Flame of Hope´was Mr Douglas Attard Liaison Officer for HM Prison. Approx. 60 members of the following Departments took part in the event.

City Fire Brigade, Gibraltar Services Police, Royal Gibraltar Regiment, Port Authority H.M. Customs H. M. Prison, Security & Immigration Ltd, Royal Gibraltar Police and the RAF Dog Section.

Two Special Olympics athlete parents and 3 Gibtelecom members also participated in the event.

The Torch was run through Irish Town, Main Street and the beaches a total of £ 1,688.09 was collected during the three hour run that ended at the Victoria Stadium when Mr Guillermo Mascarenhas Liaison Officer for the Defense Fire Service handed over the Torch to the Special Olympics Athlete.
