Pool & Snooker: Gibraltar association's second series summary

The second series of games produced a mixture of results. On Devil’s Tower Road, in the Cue Ball, last year’s champions, barentertainment.net beat the Cue Ball team three frames to two with a black-ball game!

Yewhung Chin, the entertainer’s Man-of-the-Match, won against Dylan Alvez 71 – 9; including a 35 point break. Francis Becerra, after leading by some 40 points, just managed to win on the black ball, against Jonathan Collado, 59 – 49!!

Laurence Sisarello was beaten 26-47 by Chris Schimidzu while Julian McGrail beat Ernest Clinton 58-17.Sean Galligan was eventually beaten 38-60 by Lee Wheately, the Cue Ball’s starman. Four points to the entertainers.

At the top of town, on Flat Bastion Road, the Astoria Too beat Team Queensway three frames to two. Antonio Cavilla showed the value of practice beating Kevin Dobson 70-30; to become Astoria’s Man-of-the-Match.

Eddie Bear showed dogged determination to catch up with, then beat Merv Padmose, 46-27, on the pink. Henry Bear was beaten 21-54 by Kevin Dalli, the Queensway’s starman and then Albert Goldwin showed the same skills beating Tom Rooney 46-40!! Dougie Cooper went down 27 – 41 to a lucky Nicky Correa.

On Zoca Flank, in the middle of town, St Bernard’s Catholic Social Club beat the Mediterranean Rowing Club, four frames to one.

Andrew Olivero won, 52-12, against Henry Vinet and Les Moore beat Peter Buttigieg 66-16. Mukesh Bakhru won by 62-14 against Peter Valarino and Adrian Wink, the saint’s Man-of-the-Match, beat Wilf Smart 67-11. Finally Henry Ward lost to the Med’s starman, Dion Mansfield by 7-55. Still five points to St Bernard’s.

Finally, down in Rooke, the GSP lost at home to the Astoria A team two frames to three.

Alfred Becerra was beaten 27-41 by Paco Rumbado, the Astoria’s Man-of-the-Match and Dylan Ballester beat Alaine Gatt 49-37 on the pink ball. Ivan Viñales lost 23-40 to Pepe Santos and Leslie Bruzon, the police starman, beat Keith Correa 63 – 44.

Round 2 : GBSA Team Snooker League
Today, Wednesday 1st November, the third round of the team snooker league takes place at four venues around Gibraltar.

All are welcome to come and watch, but please check with each venue about conditions of admission.

Game 1. The GSP take on barentertainment.net, at their home club in Rooke, on Queensway Road.

Game 2. Up on Flat Bastion Road the Astoria R&F Club sees the first ‘local’ derby of the season when the Astoria Team plays the Astoria Too.

Game 3. The Cue Ball, on Devil’s Tower Road, welcomes St Bernard’s Catholic Social Club.

Game 4. In the ‘new’ premises at Jumper’s Bastion, Team Queensway is at home to the Mediterranean Rowing Club.

There are still 19 rounds to go but all players must concentrate on their game. Any one can win a single frame; even against the best!
Captains are reminded that scoresheets must be returned to the association secretary on Thursday.

Team Registration Sheets.
All captains must make sure that their team registration sheets, containing names and contact telephone numbers of all their players must be with the GBSA Secretary by now! Technically no player can play in the league or enter for an open tournament unless they are registered with the secretary.
The St Bernard’s Open Snooker Tournament.

This competition, sponsored by Famous Grouse from Anglo Hispano, is the first ‘open, ranking’tournament of the season.

The tournament is open to any member of the Gibraltar Billiards & Snooker Association at the time of the draw.

All names, plus contact telephone numbers, must be entered on to the sheet displayed in St Bernard’s Social Club; by the player or his captain.

The organisers will attempt to contact each player with details and reminders but it is the responsibility of each and every player to know when and who they are playing. Postponements will only be considered at the request of both players. Any further information from Eddie Newton at St Bernard’s Social Club 78188.
