Gibraltar Basketball Association (GABBA) will be hosting the second meeting of European basketball's governing body FIBA for the term 2006-2010. Among the participants will be FIBA president George Vassilakopoulos and famous former ex-players like Turgay Demirei from Turkey. Members of the FIBA board except for Alexander Volkov will be present in Gibraltar.

Speaking to the Chronicle GABBA president John Goncalves said: "Among FIBA Europe guests are secretary general emeritus Borislav Stankovic from Serbia, probably the best known name in the history of world basketball, having been secretary general from 1976 to 2002, only the second person to hold this post; the present secretary general Patrick Baumann from Switzerland and former president of the Spanish basketball federation Ernesto Segura de Luna."

"Also here are two famous former players of the recent past, board member Pedrag Danilovic who played for Partizan Belgrade, Miami Heat (NBA) and Bologna, and Spanish international Jose Antonio Montero of Joventut de Badalona and FC Barcelona, who is attending as representative of the organising committee of Eurobasket 07."

"Chief Executive Officer of the Sports and Leisure Authority Joe Hernandez, himself a FIBA commissioner will formally welcome the participants at 10am on Saturday before the meeting."

Chief Minister Peter Caruana will host a dinner in honour of the guests at St Michael's Cave on Saturday.
