Powerboat Racing: Gibraltarians Win British Championships

Sergeant Jason Walker of the Royal Gibraltar Regiment and his brother Mark have won the British National Powerboat Championships in Torquay. They have been competing in the 1.8 litre class since the start of the season in May, which saw the Walker brothers compete in 37 heats at 10 locations across the UK. Last season the team earned second place in the rankings, but this year they managed to come a full 105 points ahead of their closest rivals.

The Government of Gibraltar and the Regiment support the team - not only is Jason a Sergeant, but Mark was also a Territorial Army soldier. Their 130hp boat is capable of speeds of 100 kph. It is painted in Gibraltar’s colours, with the Royal Gibraltar Regiment’s crest on the bow. The team now looks forward to next season when they are determined to keep the British title in Gibraltar.
