Hockey: Collegians and Hawks play today in their respective European Chamionship competitions

The Collegians Hockey Club will be flying to Switzerland to take part in the EuroHockey Club Champions Trophy Men. This is the equivalent to the old 'B' Division EuroHockey Club Champions Tournament.

They are taking part after having won the Gibraltar First Division League Title, their first in 20 years.

The tournament will consist of 8 teams in 2 groups (Pool A & Pool B). Each team will play against their respective group teams and will then play against a team from the other group. These are cross over games that will be determined as follows:

Game A: 4th Pool A v 3rd Pool B

Game B: 3rd Pool A v 4th Pool B

Game C: 2nd Pool A v 1st Pool B

Game D: 1st Pool A v 2nd Pool B

The losing sides of Games A & B will be relegated to the “C” Division and the winners of Games C & D will be promoted to the “A” Divison.

Last year the Collegians travelled to Vienna, Austria and were successful in maintaining their league status. This was a massive acheivement for them as they played against teams that were top division standard. The clubs they played against last year were Kelburne HC (SCO), Cork Harlequins HC (IRL), Olten HC (SUI) and Bohemians Prague HC (CZE).

Once again they face top teams from around Europe and hopefully they can once again be successful. This is how the groups will line up:

Pool A

Pool B

Kelburne HC (SCO)
Wiener AC (AUT)
Dinamo Kazan (RUS)
Lisnagarvey HC (IRL)

HC Rotweiss Wettingen (SUI)
Stade Francais (FRA)
Kolos Vinnitsa (UKR)
Collegians HC (GIB)~

The Collegians left Gibraltar on the 1st of June and will return on the 6th of June.

Hawks Ladies, will also be particpiating in European competition today. They are currently in

Hawks will then play on these days:

Saturday 3 June 2006
16.00 A Hawks - Sveti Djorde
Sunday 4 June 2006
18.30 A Rotweiss Wettingen - Hawks

If they make it through the group satge they will then play on either of these dates:

Monday 5 June 2006

08.30 3rd B v 4th A
11.00 3rd A v 4th B
13.30 1st A v 2nd B
16.00 1st B v 2nd A

Good luck to both our Gibraltarian representative teams. We trust you will do your best in trying to bring back some silverwear.
