Golf: Medgolf's Gala Casino Trophy

Young Josh Hunter forgot it was Father’s Day, when he beat his dad John in to second place at the latest Med Golf competition held at Montecastillio on Sunday 18th June. Josh, 13, not only won the Gibraltar Gala Casino trophy, but also his invitation to Valderrama for the Med Golf Masters in November and the day’s “top team” prize with his playing partner Tom Rooney. Playing off the men’s tees and a handicap of 26, this was a superb effort by Josh and he becomes the youngest ever winner of any Med Golf tournament. Bill Aldridge finished third and to keep this a family combination on Father’s day, also won the longest drive and a nearest the pin prize alongside his son Dan.

There was some consolation for dad John, when in addition to his second place, he had the best score of the day with a fine round of 77, the best score on the par 3’s and won a couple of nearest the pin prizes as well. Another of Gibraltar’s international golfers, Roy Azzopardi, won the senior’s competition and a nearest the pin prize. The “star quality” award went to Les Housely.

There are two Med Golf competitions in July and Santana Golf Club is the next venue for the Smarties Bar (Woodhall Spa) Trophy on Sunday 2nd July, followed by the Blue Sky (Sotogrande) Trophy on Sunday 30th July at Estepona. The usual crystal trophies and prizes will be on offer at these two tournaments, along with invitations to Valderrama and the Med Golf Masters for the winners. To get further details and book your tee times, you should ring Johnathan Goodson on 0034-639741886. He will be able to give you the full tournament schedule, as well as all the substantial green fee discounts that are now available to Med Golf members.
