Golf: Win for Medgolf's Russ Crawford

CRUZ & Co. TROPHY

It was certainly a good day all round for one of Gibraltar’s well known personalities, when Russ Crawford (pictured bottom right, with sponsor Segio Garcia) came out on top from over 60
golfers competing for the Cruz & Co. trophy at Alcaidesa on Sunday 12th March. Not only did Russ win the main sponsors event, but also the top senior prize, the team prize with Alan Clegg and that coveted invitation for the Med Golf Masters at Valderrama in November, where he now joins previous winners Louis Calvente, Denny To and Nicky Sanchez.

Second place went to Dan Aldridge with a remarkable round of 69, which won him the best gross score round of the day, with third place going to Wai To. Dan also had the best score on the par 3’s. and the top lady was Karen Surtees with Tracy Walls winning the “star quality” prize. Amongst the other prizewinners, Paul Edinburgh had the longest drive, whilst his father Mike took the nearest the pin prize in two prize. Winners of the nearest the pin prizes were George Graham-Pole, Graham Hawkins, Bill Aldridge, James O’Doughty and Matthias Grotzke. Dan Kenyon was the lucky player in the scorecard draw and won himself a box of Srixon golf balls.

One of Med Golf’s guests on the day was professional golfer Andrew Sherbourne, who is a past winner of the Spanish Open. Andrew was spending a few days at Alcaidesa, enjoying the sunshine and a few games of golf in readiness for his assault again on the Spanish Open, which this year takes place on the 27th/28th/29th and 30th April at San Roque. Two of Andrew’s travelling companions, John Wrigley and John Hyles were kind enough to make a special presentation to those players who achieved a two at the par 3 holes and the winners here were Graham Hawkins, George Desoiza and Francis Caruana.

There are still several tournaments for Med Golf members to qualify for Valderrama and the next chance is at Cabopino on Sunday 2nd April for the Kowloon-Hong Kong Restaurant trophy, closely followed by the Volvo Marbella trophy at Mijas on Sunday 30th April. Tee times can be booked on the web site www.teetimespain.com or by ringing Johnathan Goodson on 0034-639741886. You can also get the full tournament schedule and how to join Med Golf from the web site or by contacting Johnathan.
